Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy at KYND Psychology

Do I need a GP referral to book an appointment?

You can book privately without a referral. If you would like to claim Medicare rebates, you will need an eligible referral, usually from your GP with a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Can I claim Medicare rebates?

Eligible clients can receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. Further sessions may require a review with your referring doctor. Please send your referral documents before your appointment so your eligibility can be checked.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

You can begin with whatever has brought you here. Navid will explore your concerns with you and discuss how you might work together. There is no need to prepare a polished account of your life.

What is psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy explores how feelings, earlier experiences and patterns outside our awareness influence present life. Attention is given to what keeps recurring in relationships, how you experience yourself, and feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Understanding these patterns can open possibilities for change.

Do I need to know exactly what is wrong before starting?

No. You may have a clear concern, or simply feel that something is difficult, missing or repeatedly going wrong. Finding words for that experience can be part of the work itself.

How long are appointments, and how many will I need?

Appointments are 50 minutes. The frequency and length of therapy are discussed together, taking account of your concerns, circumstances and goals. There is no fixed number that suits everyone, and the direction of the work can be reviewed as therapy develops.

Can I attend therapy online?

Video and phone appointments are available. For online sessions, choose somewhere private where you can speak freely, and check your connection beforehand. You can discuss with Navid whether this format suits your circumstances.

Do you offer couple therapy?

Yes. Couple therapy offers space to examine recurring conflict, emotional distance and difficulties with trust or intimacy. The work considers how each partner experiences the relationship and what happens between them. Medicare rebates do not apply to couple therapy.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments incur the full session fee. Contact the practice as soon as you know you cannot attend.
